They always make me feel like I'm walking on air afterwards — especially my lower back and hips which get sore from sitting at a desk all day.

The approach

Stronger, lighter and freer — in your back, body and mind.

Personalised, not prescribed

Personalised, not prescribed

Every session is built around your spine, your story, your day — never someone else's blueprint.

Movement that releases, not punishes

Gentle, creative, low-impact work that shifts mood, stiffness and mindset — not a workout to survive.

Women's-health led

Especially for women navigating midlife and perimenopause who are holding a lot, and ready to stop holding it in their bodies.

In-studio or online

Work with Nicola in the London studio or live over Zoom from anywhere.

Where to start

What 'freeing your spine' actually means

New to reformer or somatic movement? Here's the short version — no jargon, no experience needed.

  • What is the Free Your Spine method?

Reformer Pilates and creative, expressive spinal movement that releases what the body has been storing — the years of holding, bracing and over-efforting that show up as back pain, stiffness and stress. Low-impact, fully guided.

  • What is a reformer?

A sprung-bed apparatus that adds gentle resistance and support, so every movement stays safe and low-impact while building strength, control and mobility in the spine.

  • Shaped around your body

Not a class to keep up with. Each session is built around your spine, your history and how you arrive that day — safely adapted for back pain, injury, pregnancy and perimenopause.

  • More than movement

We weave in breath, somatic awareness and play — because what we don't express, we often depress. The benefit shows up in everyday life, not just in the session.

Creative Pilates vs a conventional gym or class — which is for you?

A gym hands you equipment and leaves you to it. A group class moves at the room's pace, not yours. Free Your Spine is one-to-one — Nicola builds the work around your body, in the studio or over Zoom. If you're tired of fixing, forcing and pushing through, and you want to be met where you are, this is the work for you.

Nicola Cher Geismar

20+ years in health, wellbeing, Pilates & creative cultures

Nicola is a pioneering Pilates movement educator and a staunch advocate for women's health, with over two decades across health, wellbeing and creative cultures. She integrates preventative back-health care, Pilates and personal-development practices — and her workshops have been trusted by Nike, Diageo, SXSW and Elle.

In 2021 her back went out in a way she'll never forget. It wasn't just a 'back issue' — it was years of holding, bracing and over-efforting catching up with her, alongside the start of perimenopause at 39. It was expressive, spinal-based movement that helped her move through it. That's the work she now shares with women navigating their own versions of this.

Move little, move often. It's your birth right.

A member's story

The back pain that finally let go

For years — decades, really — Glen lived with thoracic-spine issues. He'd tried physio and other Pilates, and nothing held.

A little over a year ago he started working with Nicola. Sessions adapted to where his back was each week — and slowly, the benefits became undeniable.

After years (decades) of issues with my back, specifically my thoracic spine, I began seeing Nicola a little over a year ago. The benefits have been amazing.
